Jengachenga Akili (Baako)

The life and times of Baako

Welcome to the world of Baako!

e.

About me.

My name is Suzanne Lennie and I live in the lovely village of Bonnybridge, Central Scotland.  I have always been around dogs, mainly German Shepherds, whilst growing up, and when it came to getting my own dog I immediately thought of the Rhodesian Ridgeback, a dog I have always admired, but didnt know much about.

I began researching the breed, buying books on them and researching dogs on the internet. I attended a few shows to meet the breed in "person". I fell in love!

After what seemed an age, I found myself in contact with Kate and Gavin Lowson (Jengachenga) who welcomed me into their home and allowed me to meet their beautiful dogs. When their gorgeous bitch Kariba had her puppies,I was honoured to be given the pick of the dog puppies. Thank you to both Kate and Gavin for allowing me. There were 2 dog puppies and I instantly fell for "mini bruk". After what seemed a lifetime, I brought him home with me, and the adventure began!

I chose the name Baako for it's meaning of "first born child". An African name for my first ever Ridgeback.

Baako is an absolute delight of a dog, and life is never boring with him around. A true mummy's boy, he has the sweetest nature of any dog ive ever met and is my shadow. He can be a real clown and is a complete Jekyll and Hyde, very lazy and quiet in the house, but a bouncing ball of fun once outdoors! He loves nothing more than socialising with other dogs, and is happiest when running around getting muddy with his best friend Elvis. He also loves a run around with his two older and somewhat wiser "brothers" Breno and Brodie, two German Shepherds who try to keep him in check, not always successfully.

Baako does well at obedience training when the mood takes him (or when my pockets are full of tasty treats) and attends a weekly class, which he loves as he gets to say hello to all his doggie friends.Baako and I have also been introduced to the world of dog showing, and we are both enjoying it very much. Baako has done me very proud, and qualified for Crufts 2009 at his very first championship show at the age of 6 months out of a large entry, and qualified for Crufts 2010 at the first championship show of 2009, again from a very large class. At the end of each show, regardless of his placing, I take the best dog home. He is extremely loyal to his family and likes to give his "big" brother Banjo a lick and clean every morning around the ears. I cant imagine how I ever lived without a Ridgie in the house, and I love him to pieces!

Baako was bred by Kate and Gavin Lowson and is owned, loved  and exhibited by Suzanne Lennie.
